Daniel Allmendinger donated the original property in 1833 for a church and a cemetery. The first burial was in 1834 of a toddler. In 1835, the congregation approved burials of non-church members.
The congregation moved from a log cabin on this property to downtown Ann Arbor and the property has functioned as a cemetery ever since. We believe that we are the largest and oldest cemetery in Washtenaw County.
In Michigan, an individual burial site is not a parcel of land owned by the family or purchaser, rather it is a right to be buried in that portion of the cemetery designated by the certificate that is issued by the board.
